What are the rules on sunscreen use during this tour?

Only reef safe sunscreen is permitted on tours by the Kealakekua Bay particular use permit regulated by the DLNR. This EXCLUDES sunscreens with any of the following ingredients:

• Oxybenzone
• Avobenzone
• Homosalate
• Octinoxate
• Octisalate
• Octocrylene
• Nanoparticles

Reef-safe is provided for guests at the beginning of the tour and will also be available for purchase. Guests must apply sunscreen before getting on the boat so that it has time to soak in. Guests will not be allowed to reapply sunscreen until after they're done snorkeling and have decided not to get back in the water.
